Azerbaijani human rights defenders to award Thomas Hammarberg and Andres Herkel

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev â€“ APA. A group of human rights defenders held an event on the occasion of December 10 International Human Rights Day in Baku, APA reports. The human rights defenders Novella Jafaroglu, Arzu Abdullayeva and Saida Gojamanli said despite the difficulties, they had successful activity. The human rights defenders said they had successors in the country and added that they are ready to help the young human rights defenders.

The human rights defenders mentioned unpleasant events of the year.
â€œOne of them is the death of Novruzali Mammadov and the other the arrest of the bloggers.â€

The participants expressed their gratitude to the embassies of Norway, UK, US and Germany in Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe.

The human rights defenders said they awarded CE Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg and the rapporteur for Azerbaijan Andres Herkel for their merits in the protection of human rights. The award will be presented to them during the January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
