Court passes judgment on former policemen in Azerbaijan

Most of the members of the group were policemen. APA reports that Alovsat Abbasov presided over the hearing. Under the judgment of the court, Mehdi Amiraliyev and Iraj Nasrullayev have been sentenced to 15-year imprisonment, Jeyhun Garayev, Ismayil Feyziyev to 12-year imprisonment, Seyran Bagirov to 10-year imprisonment and Rauf Rzayev to 4-year imprisonment.

According to the indictment, the defendants – Mehdi Amiraliyev, officer of Interior Ministry’s Department to Combat Organized Crimes, Narimanov district police office and 18th police department, Iraj Nasrullayev, inspector of Shusha department of Interior Ministry and Department to Combat Organized Crimes, and policemen Jeyhun Garayev, Rauf Rzayev, Seyran Bagirov and Ismayil Feyziyev organized a gang and attacked foreign exchange offices in 1998-2008. the group committed over 20 such crimes in various districts of Baku.

The group members were detained by the National Security Ministry on September 30, 2008.

They faced charges under articles 29, 120.2.1 (deliberate murder committed by group of persons, on preliminary arrangement by group of persons, by organized group or criminal community), 180 (robbery), 217 (banditry), 228 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation or carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies (except for the smooth-bore hunting weapon and ammunition to it), explosives) of the Criminal Code.
