Chief of Department to Combat Corruption: 98 criminal cases related to corruption have been investigated and submitted to court in Azerbaijan this year

Lachin Sultanova – APA. 98 criminal cases on 156 persons related to corruption have been investigated and submitted to court in Azerbaijan this year. 36 criminal cases are being investigated, chief of Department to Combat Corruption under Prosecutor General’s Office Kamran Aliyev said, APA reports.

Kamran Aliyev said all the cases are connected with the officials.
“They are persons working in the state agencies and private sector. It is mainly connected with abuse of power, passive and active bribery, service forgery, embezzlement of state property and other articles,” he said.

Kamran Aliyev said these crimes were connected with various spheres, education, social protection, municipalities.
“For example, there were such cases in the departments of the State Social Protection Fund. Moreover, we investigated the criminal cases in the banking sector and sent to courts,” he said.

The department chief said the corruption cases concerning Sabayel, ZIgh, KUrdakhany municipalities, Elik municipality of Guba were being investigated.

Kamran Aliyev added that 72 cases related to corruption were sent to court in 2008.
“There are court judgments on some of these cases,” he said.
