Human Rights Commissioner visits correctional facility of Justice Ministryâ€™s Penitentiary Service

On the eve of November 20 â€“ World Childrenâ€™s Day, Human Rights Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova and representative of the UN Department of Public Information (UNDPI) visited correctional facility of Justice Ministryâ€™s Penitentiary Service. Press service of the Human Rights Commissioner told APA that Suleymanova congratulated the prisoners on the World Childrenâ€™s Day, National Revival Day and Kurban holiday.

Elmira Suleymanova said 45 pardon decrees had been issued and 9 amnesty acts applied recently. About 300 prisoners were pardoned and released basing on the appeals of the Human Rights Commissioner. Elmira Suleymanova said hotline â€œ916â€ had been established so that the Human Rights Commissioner could get information about the violation of rights of the refugees, IDPs, children from the low-income families, children in the correctional facilities. The presents brought by the Human Rights Commissioner were distributed among the under-age prisoners, the books were given to the library of the facility.
