Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration issues statement on rescuing Russia’s cargo ship

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration issued an official statement on rescuing Russia’s cargo ship “Fili”. Press service of Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration told APA that the “Fili” en route Makhachkala-Noushehr (Iran) wearing the flag of Russia, registered in Arkhangelsk port, owned by ANI Services company and carrying 1781 tons of goods (400 tons of paper and 1381 tons of steel) was in distress 12 miles north-east from Pirallahi island on October 26. A distress call was made because the steering room was filled with water.

Soon after the distress call was made, necessary measures were taken by Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Tugboat “AVIOR” owned by SOCAR Caspian Oil Fleet, tugboat “ISLAY” owned by BP, BUE Caspian and ships of the Caspian Shipping Company were sent to the site. AVIOR and ISLAY arrived at the site at 20.20 and helped the ship till 7.00, October 27. The ship was towed to Baku port. The situation is stable, none of the 11 crewmembers were injured.
