Arm and drug smugglers convicted

Baku â€“ APA. A trial of Azerbaijani and Iranian citizens smuggled arm and drug from Iran to Azerbaijan was finalized. The court presided by Judge Fikret Garibov came to conclusion that they were proved guilty. Iranian citizens â€“ Siyamak Samandari was convicted for 14 years and six months, Hamid Rzai â€“ 14 years, Azerbaijani citizens â€“ Miirhani Murtuzov and Mirgabil Khurshudov for 9 years of imprisonment.

According to indictment, Iranian citizens Samandari and Rzai criminally conspired with resident of Yardimli region of Azerbaijan Khurshudov and Murtuzov in January, 2009 attempted to smuggle 2901 gram of heroin and 10 kg hashish from Iran to Azerbaijan. They were detained by the officers of State Border Service of Azerbaijan. One TT pistol was found near the Iranians. The defendants faced with charges under articles 206.3.2 (smuggling on preliminary arrangement by group of persons) 228.2.1 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives on preliminary arrangement by group of persons) 234.4.1 (illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances on preliminary arrangement by group of persons or organized group) 234.4.3 (in large amount) 318.2 (illegal crossing border of the Azerbaijan Republic) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
