Former officers of Central Bank make last plea

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. Court of Grave Crimes held hearing on the case of six officers of the Central Bank accused of abuse of power, embezzlement, negligence and other crimes, APA reports. Afgan Hajiyev presided over the hearing. Ershad Jalilovâ€™s lawyer called the accusations brought against his client groundless. He said the court should acquit him taking into account his innocence and family. Nazila Bagirovaâ€™s lawyer said the accusations brought his client had not been proved. Following this, the defendants made last pleas. They wanted the court to pass a fair decision. The hearing will continue on September 29.

According to the indictment, Firangiz Hajiyeva, Ershad Jallilov faced charges under Article 308.2 (abuse of power), Shahnaz Samadova and Nazila Bagirova under Article 308.2 (abuse of power), 179.3.2 (embezzlement), Konul Ismayilova under Article 179.3.2 (embezzlement), 326 (abduction or destruction of official documents, stamps, seals) and Sabina Mammadova (released on bail) under Article 314.2 (negligence) of the Criminal Code. The defendants are accused of embezzling AZN 1.4 million from the Central Bank in 2003-2008.

Public prosecutor demanded 10-year sentence for Konul Ismayilova, Nazila Bagirova and Shahnaz Samadova, 6-year sentence for Ershad Jalilov, 5-year sentence for Firangiz Hajiyeva, 3-year sentence for Sabina Mammadova.
