Azerbaijanâ€™s Ministry of Internal Affairs holds a regular meeting

The Minister of Internal Affairs Colonel-General Ramil Usubov informed the participant of the successful activities related to the search of the accused and missing and the identification of unknown bodies during the past eight months.

Despite successful efforts and activities, the minister also said some city and district police had serious shortcomings.

The Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department, Colonel Arzu Dashdemirov reported that during the eight months 1528 persons wanted by police, including 70 accused persons hiding in the CIS and other countries were arrested, and whereabouts of 73 persons were identified.

He cited figures to show that the effectiveness of fighting against crimes especially murder, kidnapping, robbery, blackmail, rape has greatly improved during this period.

The Head of the Staff Management Colonel Ismet Aliyev reported that 11 736 policemen were retrained and 361 police officers attended exercises conducted abroad and in the country by international organizations.

According to him, for the first time more than 30 high-ranking officers of district police departments took part in the operational and staff exercises held at the Police Academy.

Summing up the meeting, Minsiter Ramil Usubov the shortcomings should be removed and the effectiveness of police activities should be improved.

Ramil Usubov asked the heads of major police departments, stations and local police units to pay special attention to the recruitment of young staff and their training.

The minister also underscored the necessity of computerization and use of modern technology in the police system.

He also stressed that police officers are individually responsible for complying with the rule of law, especially human rights and freedoms in relation to people, and warned that the guilty officers will be held accountable in accordance with the law.
