Lawyers ask court to acquit members of gang cooperating with Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah and SEPAH

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. The Court of Grave Crimes held hearing on the case of Lebanese and Azerbaijanis, who are accused of having links to Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps of Iran (SEPAH) and attempting to commit terror attacks in Azerbaijan, APA reports. Ilgar Murguzov presided over the hearing. The lawyers of Javid Mammadov, Vidadi Rasulov, Mushfig Amanov and Afghan Hajiyev said their clients were innocent and asked the court to acquit them. The hearing will continue on September 24.

Lebanese citizens – Karaki Ali Mohammad, Najmaddin Ali Huseyn and Azerbaijani citizens – Mammadov Javad Mammadrasul, Rasulov Vidadi Rahil, Amanov Mushfig Eyyub, Balashov Afghan Yunus face with charges under articles of the Penal Code for spying, treason, illegal arms bearing and other articles.

Public prosecutor Ehtiram Bakhshaliyev demanded sentence – 15 years of imprisonment for Karaki Ali Mohammad and Najmaddin Ali Huseyn, 14 years for Cavid Mammadov and Vidadi Rasulov and 13 years for Mushfig Amanov and Afghan Hajiyev.
