Ideal newspaper founder and editor-in-chief Nazim Guliyev’s trial begins

Baku. Ramil Mammadli - APA. The Grievous Crimes Court began a trial on the criminal case of Nazim Guliyev, an editor and the founder of a local newspaper Ideal, APA reports. Judge Azer Orujov presided over the trial. The court appointed the judicial survey on September 29.

According to the indictment, Guliyev is accused under Articles 182.2 (Extortion), 182.2.3 (extortion with use of force), 182.3.2 (extortion with a purpose of occupying large size of property), 221.1 (hooliganism) and 234.1 (Illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code.

On May 20, Nazim Guliyev was acquitted from the charge under Article 147.2 (slander, which is connected with accusation of committing serious or especially serious crime) of the Criminal Code but was given six months in prison on insult charges under Article 148 of the Criminal Code.
The lawsuit was filed by Tenzila Rustemkhanli, chairwoman of Azeri-Turk Women Association, and Sabira Mahmudova, known as “Karabakh’s Hajar”.
