Human Rights Commissioner receives head of OSCE Office in Baku

Baku – APA. Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova received head of OSCE Office Ali Bilge Cankorel, the Human Rights Commissioner’s press service told APA. Human Rights Commissioner noted that OSCE is known as an influential regional organization in Europe and said Azerbaijan chose the way of integration into Europe.
Elmira Suleymanova said hotline was established in the institution within the framework of the joint project implemented together with the OSCE Office in Baku in 2004. The project aimed to investigate the violations of human rights in jails, temporary detention facilities. Human Rights Commissioner said the related article of the National Action Plan envisaged preparation of strategy on cooperation with the international organizations dealing with the human rights, as well as OSCE. Suleymanova noted the necessity of solving the Nagorno Karabakh conflict peacefully, expressed her hope that OSCE Minsk Group will act more resolutely, effectively, openly and transparently.
Ali Bilge Cankorel said his visit with the Human Rights Commissioner aimed to discuss the prospects of the cooperation. Touching on the forthcoming local elections, Cankorel underlined the importance of psychological preparedness for the elections, improvement of election ethics and implementation of joint projects. Ali Bilge Cankorel said OSCE Office in Baku is interested in opening representations in the regions of the country and relies on the support of the Human Rights Commissioner.
