Poti Court passes decision on fining crew of “Buket” ship 66,000 laris

Baku. Viktoria Dementieva – APA. The crew of the Panamanian ship “Buket”, which was detained in Georgia yesterday, was fined 66,000 laris by Poti Court, APA reports. Criminal case has been launched. The crew members are accused of violating the customs legislation and smuggling goods to the occupied territories of Georgia. United Transport Administration of Georgia said the ship had illegally crossed the border several times. According to the local legislation, if the accusations are proved, Buket ship will be confiscated and put up to auction.

13 of the crew members are Turkish citizens, 4 Azerbaijanis. Consul of Azerbaijani embassy in Georgia Farhad Mammadov told APA’s Georgia bureau that as soon as Azerbaijan’s diplomatic representation received information, they appealed to Poti regional department of Georgian Border Police. They confirmed that there are four Azerbaijanis on board the ship. They are Tariyel Nasirov, Asgar Asgarov, Vusal Hamzayev and Akram Zamanov.
“Criminal case has already been launched on the captain of the ship. He is not Azerbaijani. The Azerbaijanis have not faced any charges,” he said.

Officers of coast guard department of Georgian Interior Ministry’s Border Police detained ship “Buket” sailing under the flag of Panama. The ship was detained because navigation rules had been violated, the ship had illegally crossed Georgian border several times and arrived in the occupied territory of Abkhazia. The frontier guards said the detained ship had left a Turkish port for Sukhumi. The crew members have been arrested, 13 of them are Turkish citizens, 4 Azerbaijanis. The ship was loaded with 2 tones of gasoline and 700 tones of diesel fuel. The detained ship was brought to Poti port, the base of the coast guard department.
