Human Rights Commissioner meets with advisor on political issues of U.S. embassy in Azerbaijan

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova received Joanna Hanson, advisor on political issues of the U.S. embassy in Azerbaijan. Press service of Human Rights Commissioner’s Office told APA that Elmira Suleymanova briefed about the activity of the institution and noted that effective cooperation was established with the U.S. embassy in the field of human rights.
Joanna Hanson said the mutual relations will continue. She expressed her concern over the arrest of Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizadeh. The Human Rights Commissioner said she discussed it with the representatives of the embassies of the European Union members Belgium and Hungary and head of European Commission’s delegation to Azerbaijan.
“The employees of the Human Rights Commissioner’s Office met with the young men held in the temporary detention facility of Khatai district police office. Investigation was carried out,” she said.
The Human Rights Commissioner said she appealed to Interior Minister and Prosecutor General and asked to control objectivity of the investigation and legality of their detention.
They also exchanged views on the case of former editor-in-chief of the Tolishi sedo newspaper.
Elmira Suleymanova said they will continue cooperation with the new ambassador, the cooperation will be balanced and serve the development of democratic values.
