Three detained over mass unrest between civilians, SOCAR employees and police in Azerbaijan’s capital

About 100 people were interrogated. Three Baku residents – Gurban Gasim Khudiyev, 37, Mayis Amiraga Mukhtarov, 44, and Elchin Anvar Hasanov, 26, were detained. Measures are being taken to determine and detain the other participants of the incident.

Binagadi district police office also said some of the injured policemen were discharged from hospital.

On August 5, a group of people used force against the employees of the Oil Company and policemen, hit them with stones, when measures were being taken to knock down illegal constructions in the territories at the disposal of SOCAR in Sulutepe settlement of Binagadi district and near Hokmali village.

20 of SOCAR employees and policemen were injured. 5 policemen were taken to Interior Ministry’s hospital.

Baku Prosecutor’s Office has launched criminal case on the fact on articles 222 (violation of safety rules during construction), 188 (infringement of property right on land) and 315 (resistance or use of force against an official) of the Criminal Code, investigation is underway.
