Russian citizen gives testimony in “Forest Brothers” trial

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. On Saturday, hearing on the case of the 26-men organized gang, which is accused of forming a group “Forest brothers”, committing a number of crimes, including terror attack on Abu Bakr mosque in Narimanov district continued in the Court of Grave Crimes. APA reports that Karamat Aliyev presided over the hearing. Defendants – Russian citizen Magomed Isayev and Azerbaijani citizen Samir Babayev gave testimony and Isayev acknowledged that he fought in Chechnya, but didn’t agree with other accusations against him. He said he never propagandize the involving of Azerbaijani citizens in the battles in Chechnya against the Russian armed forces. Babayev denied accusations against him under articles 228 (illegal purchase, selling, storage, transportation and production of narcotic drugs) and 228 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives) of the Criminal Code. He partially acknowledged his participation in forming of illegal armed group. He said he didn’t know Ilgar Mollachiyev, who called himself “emir of Dagestan jamaat”. He also said that he knew about the explosion in Abu Bakr mosque from TV news.

The hearing will continue on August 3.

According to the indictment, Azerbaijanis Elnur Bashirov, Gudrat Malikov, Khalid Valimatov, Ulfat Malikov, Vahid Asadov, Zabit Shikhbabayev, Fariz Mammadov, Samir Babayev, Anar Valimatov, Rasim Isgandarov, Elshan Allahverdiyev, Rafig Agajanov, Taleh Maharramov, Teymur Narimanov, Bozorgi Kamran, Azer Bakhishov, Musa Orujov, Alexander Nuraliyev, Mammad Mammadov, Elkhan Osmanov, Zaur Jafarov, Rufat Rzayev, Sardar Bunyatov, Russian citizens Magomed Isayev and Turkish citizens Yamin Ali and Ozdemir Ergin in collaboration with Ilgar Mollachiyev aka Abdulmajid and his brother-in-law Samir Mehdiyev aka Suleyman attempted to commit unrest in Azerbaijan. They are accused of committing explosion in Abu Bakr mosque and other crimes.
The defendants faced charges under Articles 214 (terrorism), 120 (premeditated murder), 279 (creation of armed formations or groups, which are not provided by the legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic), 228 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives) of the Criminal Code. 26 were detained during the initial investigation.
