Preliminary hearing held on appeal filed by radical religious group members

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. Baku Appeals Court held the preliminary hearing on the appeal filed against the court decision about the persons accused of setting up a radical religious group and committing a number of crimes. APA reports that Faig Gasimov presided over the process. The court hearing has been scheduled for August 10. The defendants did not attend the preliminary hearing. The court passed a decision on their participation in the court hearing.
12 out of 20 defendants â€“ Ramin and Tarlan Karimovs, Shirvani Babayev, Ilkin Ismayilov, Orkhan Alizadeh, Kamran Babayev, Samir Aliyev, Azer Ibadov, Ramin Jalilov, Farid Jabbarov, Elshan Mammadov and Bakhtiyar Orujov filed appeal against the decision of the Military Court of Grave Crimes.
Kamran Asadov, Samir Mehraliyev, Edgar Aliyev, Yashar and Shahriyar Maharramovs, Hajibala Huseynov, rovshan Abdulaliyev and Vugar Aliyev did not file appeal against court decision. Kamran Asadov was sentenced to 15 years in jail, Bakhtiyar Orujov to 15 years, Farid Jabbarov to 15 years, Elshan Mammadov to 14 years, Kamran Babayev to 15 years, Samir Mehraliyev to 15 years, Tarlan Karimov to 13 years, Edgar Aliyev to 6 years, Ramil Karimov to 12 years, Orkhan Alizadeh to 10 years and six months, Hajibala Huseynov to 6 years and 3 months, Azer Ibadov to 10 years, Shahriyar Maharramov to 2 years, Ramin Jalilov to 11 years, Rovshan Abdulaliyev to 12 years and 6 months, Ilkin Ismayilov to 18 years, Vugar Aliyev to 14 years in jail. The court also passed a decision to appeal to the Defense Ministry to deprive Kamran Asadov of the rank of lieutenant.
The defendants were accused of setting up a radical religious group, attempting to start military struggle, attacking on LUKoil petrol station in Baku, preparing terror attack on the U.S. and UK embassies in Azerbaijan.
