Iranian and Azerbaijani drug smugglers sentenced

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. On Thursday, the Court of Grave Crimes finalized trial of 8 drug smugglers, including Iranian citizens. According to APA, Judge Ramella Allhaverdiyeva presided over the process. The court came to conclusion that the crime was proved to be committed by citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mikayil Aslani, citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan Etibar Mehraliyev, Etibar Aliyev, Ramin Samadov, Natig Balayev, Tarlan Muradov, Rovsahn Mammadov and Rza Ahmadov. Etibar Mehraliyev, Etibar Aliyev, Mikayil Aslani were sentenced for 15 years, Ramin Samadov, Natig Balayev, Tarlan Muradov and Rovshan Mammadov – 14 years, Rza ahmadov – 12 years.

According to the indictment, resident of Neftchala Region Etibar Mehraliyev received 231 kg hashish from the Iranian citizens, whose names are identified by the police now, in Kurkamen Isle in the territory of Gizilagac national reserve on December 23, 2008 and carried the narcotics in his own boat and hid it in the coastal area of Neftchala Region. Iranian citizen Mikayil Aslani came to Azerbaijan legally on December 24 to take narcotics from Etibar Mehraliyev and to hand over to resident of Astara Region Etibar Aliyev. As a result of operational searches conducted by the Ministry of National Security on December 25, 2008 231 kg narcotic drugs smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan was confiscated form those persons.

They were charged under Articles 206.4 (Smuggling committed by the organized group), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (Illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances on preliminary arrangement by group of persons or organized group and in large amount) of the Criminal Code.
