â€œForest brothersâ€ member: â€œ3000 people have been arrested because of Gamat Suleymanovâ€

APA reports that Karamat Aliyev presided over the hearing. Defendant Gudrat Malikov gave testimony on Tuesday. He said he has visited Abu Bakr mosque since 1999 and knew the mosqueâ€™s imam Gamat Suleymanov very well. â€œWe had good relations with Gamat. But he did big mistake calling the fighters against the enemies of Islam in Afghanistan and Chechnya â€“ Guba and Sumgayit jamaat â€“ as havaric, dogs of hell. How can the Muslim fighting against the Russians, who killed our people on January 20, in Karabakh, be havaric?â€

Malikov said he decided to kill Gamat Suleymanov in May, 2008. â€œI prepared explosives for this, came to Baku and found out the place where Gamat was parking his car near the mosque. I observed that place for three days that not to make mistake. But then I heard that Gamat was not in Azerbaijan. I hided the explosives in the roof f our old house in Guba. No one, including my brother Ulfat Malikov, knows about thatâ€. He said he was tortured during the preliminary investigation when he was detained together with his brother. Malikov said he didnâ€™t agree with the most of accusations against him. Then he addressed Gama Suleymanov, who attended the court as an aggrieved person. â€œI called you my brother at one time. But you were not right. We had no relation to the explosion in the mosqueâ€.

Defendant Kamran Bozorgi accused the public prosecutor in wrong investigation and called Gamat Suleymanov betrayer. â€œThere was no organization named â€œGuba jamaatâ€. I was not emir of that â€œjamaatâ€. Gamat, do you know that 3000 people were arrested for their relations with you?â€

According to the indictment, Azerbaijanis Elnur Bashirov, Gudrat Malikov, Khalid Valimatov, Ulfat Malikov, Vahid Asadov, Zabit Shikhbabayev, Fariz Mammadov, Samir Babayev, Anar Valimatov, Rasim Isgandarov, Elshan allahverdiyev, Rafig Agajanov, Taleh Maharramov, Teymur Narimanov, Bozorgi Kamran, Azer Bakhishov, Musa Orujov, Alexander Nuraliyev, Mammad Mammadov, Elkhan Osmanov, Zaur Jafarov, Rufat Rzayev, Sardar Bunyatov, Russian citizens Magomed Isayev and Turkish citizens Yamin Ali and Ozdemir Ergin in collaboration with Ilgar Mollachiyev aka Abdulmajid and his brother-in-law Samir Mehdiyev aka Suleyman attempted to commit unrest in Azerbaijan. They are accused of committing explosion in Abu Bakr mosque and other crimes.
The defendants faced charges under Articles 214 (terrorism), 120 (premeditated murder), 279 (creation of armed formations or groups, which are not provided by the legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic), 228 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives) of the Criminal Code. 26 were detained during the initial investigation.
