Baku Main Police Office: The number of premeditated murders reduced in Baku in the six months of this year compared with the previous year
Following this, deputy chief of Baku Main Police Office, Major-General Elkhan Hasanov made a report about the struggle against crimes, public order and security, measures taken in other fields and future tasks. Compared with the reporting period of last year, premeditated murders and attempts to murder fell from 43 to 36 (16.5 percent), robberies from 74 to 63 (14.9 percent), kidnappings from 8 to 6 (25 percent), blackmails from 14 to 7 (50 percent), swindling from 462 to 437 (5.4 percent). 77.5 percent of grave crimes, 78 percent of premeditated murders, 83.5 percent of robberies, 68.5 percent of plunders, 42.4 percent of plundering of personal property, 91 percent of swindling facts were solved, 13 groups consisting of 49 men, who committed 34 robberies and plunders, and a group of 21 men, who committed robberies in 31 flats, were exposed. 117 illegal firearms, as well as 9 machine guns, 33 pistols, 75 guns and a great deal of ammunitions were confiscated. In the reporting period 137 kg narcotics (110 kg in the reporting period of last year) were removed from turnover. Compared with the six months of 2008 the number of the recorded crimes increased by 26 facts, crimes related to sale by 52 facts.
Hasanov noted that improvements had been made in ensuring traffic safety in the first half of 2009. Measures were taken about 4762 people, who drove in drunken condition, 1988 people, who disobeyed rules of passenger transportation, 9350 drivers, who violated speed. The number of fatal road accidents fell from 399 to 352 (11.8 percent) and the number of the wounded people fell from 1736 to 1534 (11.6 percent). Compared with the previous year, the number of fatal road accidents fell from 503 to 402.
Public order was seriously controlled in the capital, public legal rules were ensured during 122 operations, 6 attempts to hold unsanctioned actions were prevented, 35 special plans were prepared concerning public safety during the visit of high-level foreign guests to Baku.
