Former human rights defender partially admits his guilt

Baku – APA. Chief of Azerbaijan Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov met with the former founder of the committee Parviz Deyistani, who was arrested over selling counterfeit ID cards. The committee chief said Deyistani was held in the detention facility #2 in Shuvalan. Deyistani partially admitted his guilt. He said Parviz Deyistani was illegally held in the Interior Ministry’s Department to Combat Organized Crimes for three days. Behbudov said Deyistani faced charges under Article 320.1 (fake of certificate or other official document giving the rights or releasing from duties, with a view of its use or selling of such document, as well as manufacturing in same purposes or selling of counterfeit state awards of the Azerbaijan Republic, stamps, seals, forms) of the Criminal Code.
Information about the detention of Deyistani was posted on the official website pf Interior Ministry’s press service. The officers of the Interior Ministry’s Department to Combat Organized Crimes arrested Baku residents – editor of Baku Cartography Factory of Azerbaijan State Land and Cartography Committee Irina Konovalova and co-founder of the nongovernmental organization Committee against Torture Parviz Deyistani. Konovalova’s house was searched, blanks, certificates, document samples, floppy disks with various seals, computer and scanner were confiscated.
Department to Combat Organized Crimes has launched criminal case on the fact, investigation is underway.
