Lawyers address the radical religious groupâ€™s trial

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. Hearing on the case of former officer of Azerbaijani Army Kamran Asadov and 19 others continued in the Military Court of Grave Crimes on Thursday. APA reports that judge Islam Neymanov presided over the process. Aggrieved persons â€“ operator of LUKoil petrol station Samir Guliyev and Tofig Mammadov, whose care was stolen by the radical religious group, attended the hearing.
Then defendant lawyers addressed the court. Yaver Huseyn, lawyer of Ramin and Tarlan Karimov, Shirvani Babayev and Orkhan Alizadeh, said the preliminary investigation was not correct and there were groundless accusations against the defendants. He said the prosecutorâ€™s accusations were not approved during the court investigation. â€œThe prosecutor didnâ€™t attach the cases individuallyâ€. The lawyer said his defendants were not guilty and there were two accusations for one action. â€œThe establishing of religious community is not banned in the country. The prosecutor didnâ€™t consider alleviative cases. Therefore my defendants are the prisoners of conscienceâ€.
Yaver Huseyn requested to issue absolution verdict about his defendants.
Accused Bakhtiyar Orujovâ€™s lawyer Rafael Mansimzadeh said his defendant was illegally charged under article of desertion. He said only Kamran Asadov of accused persons was a military serviceman. â€œBakhtiyar Orujov canâ€™t be charged under this article because he was not a military servicemanâ€. Mansimzade demanded to easy punishment of his defendant.
Shahriyar Maharramovâ€™s lawyer Alizada Kazimov said his defendant couldnâ€™t be charged under article 315 and demanded absolution verdict for him.
Afsar talibov, lawyer of Kamran Babayev, Azer Ibadov, Samir Aliyev, criticized the prosecution. He said the accusations were preconceived and demanded absolution verdict for his defendants.
Kamran Asadov, Bakhtiyar Orujov, Farid Jabbarov, Elshan Mammadov, Kamran Babayev, Samir Mehraliyev, Terlan Karimov, Edgar Aliyev, Ramil Karimov, Shirvani Babayev, Samir Aliyev, Yalchin Maharramov, Orkhan Alizadeh, Hajibala Huseynov, Azer Ibadov, Shahriyar Maharramov, Ramin Jalilov, Rovshan Abdulaliyev, Ilkin Ismayilov and Vugar Aliyev are accused of setting up a radical religious group, attempting to start military struggle, attacking on LUKoil petrol station in Baku, preparing terror attack on the U.S. and UK embassies in Azerbaijan.
