Ideal newspaper founder’s trial to be continued tomorrow

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Nasimi district court continued hearing on the suit brought by chairperson of Azeri-Turkish Women Union Tanzila Rustamkhanli and Sabira Mahmoudova, known as “Karabakh’s Hajar”, against the founder of Ideal newspaper Naim Guliyev in the second half of the day. The court session presided over by Judge Elman Ahmadov was held behind the closed doors.
Complainant Tanzil Rustamkhanli told APA lawyers of the defendant delivered speeches at the court. Rustamkhanli said she has not withdrawn the suit against Guliyev yet and the process would be continued on Wednesday.

Accused Nazim Guliyev appeared before the court. He said he repented for his actions. The plaintiff Sabira Mahmoudova announced that she withdrew the suit against Nazim Guliyev because of his family conditions and submitted the reconciling appeal.
Basing on the suit brought by chairperson of Azeri-Turkish Women Union Tanzila Rustamkhanli, Nasimi district court passed a judgment to hold Nazim Guliyev accountable and arrest him in November, 2008. He has been searched since then and was arrested on April 24, 2009.
The Anti-Corruption Office of the General Prosecutor’s Office charged the founder of the Ideal newspaper Nazim Guliyev under articles 182 (extortion) and 311 (bribery) of the Criminal Code. The investigation is still going on.
