Statistics of complaints filed from Azerbaijan to European Court of Human Rights last year made public - <span style="color: red;">PHOTO

APA’s Europe correspondent reports that the report on the activity of the European Court in 2013 was released at the press briefing attended by ECtHR Chairman Dean Spielmann.

According to the report, ECtHR received about 100 000 complaints in 2013, down by 28,000 compared to 2012. It is regarded as a positive result of the recent reforms carried out by ECtHR. In 2011 ECtHR received 160,000 complaints.

Last year, 65 000 of 100,000 complaints were sent for court proceedings. In 2013, most of the complaints were filed from the Russian Federation (16,800 complaints). It is followed by Italy with 14,400 complaints and Ukraine with 13,300 complaints. Turkey ranks fifth in this report with 10,950 complaints.

Most of the complaints received by the court are related to article #6 (the right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights. Complaints regarding this article made 30.05% in 2013. Complaints on article #3 (the prohibition of torture) of the Convention made 18.45%. ECtHR passed 916 judgments on various complaints.

1293 complaints were filed from Azerbaijan to ECtHR, 325 of them are pending, 284 were rejected. The court communicated with Azerbaijani government regarding 115 complaints and passed judgments on 8. Judgments on Azerbaijan were mainly passed under article #3 (4 complaints) and article #6 (5 complaints). 76 judgments have been passed on Azerbaijan since the country signed the European Convention on Human Rights in 2001. Most of these judgments were passed under articles #3 and 6 of the Convention, article #1 to Protocol 1 (protection of property) and article #3 (right to free elections).

ECtHR budget for 2013 was € 67,650,400.
