Solemn event on 96th anniversary of Lithuaniaâ€™s independence held in Baku - <span style="color: red;">PHOTO

Baku. Anakhanum Hidoyatova – APA. Lithuania’s embassy in Azerbaijan held a solemn event on the 96th anniversary of the country’s independence, APA reports.

Making a keynote speech at the event, Charge D`Affaires of Lithuanian Embassy to Azerbaijan Sarune Kubiliute said independence day of Lithuania is the symbol of unification. She said the independence first gained in 1918, was regained on March 11, 1990.

“Like the Azerbaijani people we also faced hardships in our history, were under the USSR. Today Lithuania is a member of the European Union and NATO. But the most important for us is that Lithuania is independent,” she said.

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Taxes Fazil Mammadov addressed the event. Congratulating the Lithuanians on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijani people, Fazil Mammadov underlined the importance of improving cooperation. He said regular mutual visits demonstrate the dynamics of Azerbaijan-Lithuania cooperation.

Fazil Mammadov expressed his hope that Azerbaijan-Lithuania intergovernmental commission will continue its successful activity.
