Baku. Viktoria Dementeva - APA. Baku is hosting international conference “NATO’s news strategic concept and security challenges in the South Caucasus”.
APA reports that the conference is organized by Romanian Embassy in Baku, which is serving NATO Contact Point Embassy in Azerbaijan, and Human Rights Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Making a keynote speech at the conference, MP Ayten Mustafayeva said it is the third time they are organizing such an event. She said Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation has been lasting for years, Azerbaijan has proved to be reliable partner of NATO. “At present, the historical period in the Caucasus region is complicated. Azerbaijan is interested in the stability in the region,” he said.
Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Daniel Ciobanu highly appreciated Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation within IPAP.
“Azerbaijan has made contributions to ISAF and regional security. Close cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO will contribute to the peace and stability in the region,” he said.
MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev gave information about the history of Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation on the parliamentary level. He said application of double standards in the solution of conflicts is inadmissible, called on NATO PA for much closer cooperation. “NATO should demonstrate concrete position on Nagorno Karabakh conflict, as it did with regard to the conflicts in Georgia and Moldova,” he said.
Experts, parliamentarians, NATO Officer-Coordinator for the South Caucasus William Lahu are attending the event.
