Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan issues statement on armed incident occurred on border

Spokesman of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan Seyid Muhammed Ayatullahi said while commenting on the armed incident occurred between trespassers and Azerbaijani border guards on December 1 that the recent incident occurred in the area of Azerbaijan and no incident was recorded on the border with Iran on that date.

He also said that Iranian officials didn’t comment on this incident and the statements disseminated by some media outlets on behalf of Commander of Iran's Border Guard Force General Hossein Zolfaqari don’t reflect the truth.

An armed incident occurred on 1 December around 19:30 at the service territory of the Lankaran Border Detachment. 37-year old major Magsud Nagiyev died as a result of the incident. 50-year old Lieutenant-Colonel Azer Shafiyev and 29-year old Vugar Vahabov were wounded.

The incident took place while preventing trespassers from crossing the border, as a result of which one serviceman died and two were wounded. The wounded have received first aid, their situation is satisfactory. Following the incident, ambulance of Lankaran Emergency Medical Aid Station has evacuated the wounded servicemen to the Lankaran City Central Hospital.
