Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Philippe Lefort will end his mission in late January. The EU Delegation to Azerbaijan told APA that the process is currently underway to make an appointment to this post.
“Office of the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus will continue its work and involvement in the region will not undergo any changes,” the delegation said.
Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs/State Secretary Grigory Karasin met with European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Philippe Lefort on January 17, Russia’s Foreign Ministry reported. French diplomat Lefort was appointed to this post in August, 2011. Earlier, Peter Semneby had been EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Pierre Morel EU Special Representative for the crisis in Georgia.
