Commenting on the media reports about the killing of Azerbaijani citizens in the Syrian clashes, Abdullayev said that Azerbaijan continues to investigate this issue through diplomatic channels: “The situation in Syria still remains tense. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Syria has been closed temporarily due to this situation. The embassy has moved to Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Despite this, we are closely following what is happening in Syria.”
Abdullayev said that first of all it is necessary to clarify whether the killed persons are Azerbaijanis or not, but taking into account the situation in Syria, it is a difficult process: “If the participation of Azerbaijani citizens in the Syrian fights is proved, necessary steps will be taken within the law.”
