Azerbaijani Foreign Minister receives newly-appointed Head of European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan

Baku – APA. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has today received newly-appointed Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Malena Mård.

Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA that signing of visa facilitation agreement between Azerbaijan and EU has been characterized as the beginning of a new stage between the sides and hope has been expressed that the negotiations on signing of bilateral documents will result successfully.

Ambassador Malena Mård noted the organization that she represents sees Azerbaijan as a strategic partner, highly appreciates Azerbaijan’s role in the energy security and is interested in the enhancement of cooperation in different spheres.

Speaking about prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU, Elmar Mammadyarov said that integration into the Euro-Atlantic space is one of our country’s priorities and underlined the importance of protecting national interests of our country in the development of Azerbaijan-EU relations.

Touching upon settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Elmar Mammadyarov noted that international organizations, as well as EU should hold fair position on the settlement of the conflict and make real contributions to the process of settlement. He also said that Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict is a main obstacle for regional development, intra-regional and inter-regional integration.
