Baku. Viktoria Dementyeva – APA. “It is up to Azerbaijan to decide how to develop the relations with the European Union,” Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan Malena Mard told journalists, APA reports.
Malena Mard said both sides were interested in deepening political and economic association. She mentioned that Azerbaijan and the European Union were cooperating within the Eastern Partnership program.
“EU appreciates this cooperation with Azerbaijan. It is in the interests of both sides to be close to each other,” she said.
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev had said Azerbaijan was not going to sign an association agreement with the EU in the near future.
Touching on the development of the agreement on Common Aviation Area between Azerbaijan and EU, Malena Mard said the negotiations were not so intensive, but the EU’s proposals were on the table.
“We are ready to continue this work with Azerbaijan and pass to the next stage of the negotiations,” she said.
The first stage of the negotiations was held in Baku in January, 2013.
