Cooperation between the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group and Azerbaijan has expanded since the liberation of Karabakh, President of the IsDB Group Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser said while speaking about cooperation between Azerbaijan and the group at an event held as part of the IsDB Group Annual Meetings in Baku, APA reports.
He noted that cooperation between the Islamic Development Bank and Azerbaijan has continued for many years and that various projects have been implemented during this period.
“Since the beginning of our relations, we have had more than $1.3 billion worth of projects in Azerbaijan. We are now accelerating this pace even further, particularly as our cooperation has expanded since the liberation of Karabakh,” Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser said.
The IsDB Group president noted that he has visited the region twice to see the reconstruction and restoration work underway in Karabakh.
“The progress taking place is truly impressive. One of the first projects we financed was related to water and irrigation systems. We are currently working on a major project worth more than $430 million. This project includes the rehabilitation of canals and the prevention of water losses,” he emphasized.
Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser added that the bank is also considering projects in other important infrastructure sectors in Azerbaijan.
“We are looking at other areas, including highways, transport infrastructure and even railways. We are ready to support the transformational projects that the government plans to implement in the near future,” the IsDB chief said.
He noted that the Islamic Development Bank is proud to be a reliable partner for the President and Government of Azerbaijan.
“We believe that we can bring added value and expertise to the implementation of these projects,” Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser said.
