"The European Union is not ready for further enlargement and is only looking for a way to create the illusion of it," Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said in an interview with Imedi TV, APA's local bureau reports.

According to her, the changes related to the enlargement process concern not only institutional issues but may also affect the fundamental principles of the EU.

Botchorishvili noted that it is particularly difficult for Georgia to assess the prospects for the EU's future enlargement.

"Georgia received candidate status, but the European Union suspended dialogue with a candidate country within a few months. It is difficult for the European Union even to engage in dialogue on legislative issues. Some countries and forces are trying to impose preconditions for the resumption of dialogue, which is completely unacceptable," the foreign minister added.

It should be noted that five EU member states — Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg — have proposed limiting the voting rights of new members in the organization, primarily in the areas of foreign and defense policy.
