I session is in process within framework of World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue

Baku. Ulker Gasimova – APA. Within the framework of World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held in Baku, I session is being held on Intercultural understanding and cultural diversity to achieve peace and development, APA reports. First, Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev made a speech and announced the program of the session. Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov and Senior Advisor of the Strategic Development and Partnerships, United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Jean Christophe Bas are co-chairing the session.

In his speech, Mammadyarov spoke about the importance of the forum and wished often organization of such projects: “I hope, new cooperation forms will be established within this event, or existing cooperation forms will be strengthen more. I am expecting your proposals for increasing intercultural dialogue”.

Bas reminded the research conducted by the Institute on International Conflicts: “According to results of the research, there are 143 serious conflicts. 8 of them have strong cultural component and it caused occurrence of these conflicts. We live in such period that we must be aware of one another. From this aspect, I appreciate the holding of such dialogue”.

Thereupon, Vice-Chairman and Professor of Shanghai Center for International Studies Pan Guang, Director of Division of Cultural Policies and Intercultural Dialogue of UNESCO Katérina Stenou, Vice-chair of the Executive Council of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe Eberhard Koelsch, Counterpoint British Council Catherine Fieschi, Executive Director of the Association of International Education Administrators, Duke Unevirsity, USA Darla Deardorff delivered speeches. I session is continuing with other speeches.
