White House resends Matthew Bryza’s nomination for ambassador post to Azerbaijan to Senate approval
# 28 January 2011 08:35 (UTC +04:00)
Using his exceptional authorities during the Congress holiday, US President Barack Obama signed order on six appointments, including Bryza’s appointment, without Senate’s approval.

According to the US Constitution, the candidates nominated by the President must be approved by the Senate. But the President can use his authorities during the Senate’s intersession holiday to appoint officials and diplomats.

The presidential decision allows the candidates to take the office without the Senate’s approval, but the Senate must approve nominations within a year. Otherwise the president’s appointment loses its validity.

Newly appointed ambassador Matthew Bryza swore in at the State Department on January 27. He will arrive in Azerbaijan and take his office in two weeks.
