APA’s European bureau reports that Pashayeva noted importance of increasing activity in direction of extension of inter-religious and intercultural dialogue: “I want to exemplify my country. Muslims, Christians, Jews are in a very good relations with each other in Azerbaijan. Despite aggressive acts of Armenia, Azerbaijani nation has not touched Armenian church in Baku as well. Today, thousands of Armenians live in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, we can not see the same situation in Armenia. Mosque and cultural monuments, at the same time all religious and cultural monuments in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan were destroyed and this process is being continued. As PACE and member states, our main duty is to work more both inside our countries and in the world in the sphere of intercultural and inter-civilizational dialogue. Different events are held in Azerbaijan in inter-religious and intercultural dialogue sphere by both Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the state. We call PACE to take Azerbaijan as an example from standpoint of taking appropriate measures both in member states and in the international level for elimination of unpleasant cases in this sphere”.

MP Aydin Abbasov also made a speech: “Azerbaijan plays a role of bridge between Europe and Asia. I must note the fact that for 10 years Azerbaijan is a member of both Council of Europe and Organization of the Islamic Conference. Day of Tolerance is marked in Azerbaijan since 1999. The President congratulates all religious communities on occasion of all their main holidays. We must concentrate all our efforts on organization of joint events between different religious sects, prevention of confrontation between people and religions”.
