European Parliament member: â€œAccording to international law Armenia must leave the occupied territoryâ€

Fouad Gulubeyli â€“ APA. â€œI believe that last two years relations between European Parliament and Azerbaijan were developed and in previous period Azerbaijan understood that EP is important body for the relations between Azerbaijan and Europe and now we have very good relations. We cooperate in different areas certainly in political area specially. Azerbaijani event was and will be organized in the European Parliament. Many of my colleagues are very open to this cooperation. Neighborhood policy is the most important policy for EU and I really welcome and privilege this cooperationâ€, member of the European parliament from Romania Norica Nikolai told APA. â€œAzerbaijan is one of the most important countries not only for European Commission, but member states are really interested in increasing level of cooperation with Azerbaijan not only in economic, which is important, but I believe in all areas of cooperation, including democracy, human rights, cultural cooperation, which is really important, because unfortunately there are not many Europeans who know many things about history and culture of Azerbaijan and it is important to know something about this country, but in this moment Azerbaijan is one of the priorities of the European Union cooperation policyâ€.

European Parliament member Nikolai said the so-called frozen conflicts are their main preoccupation. â€œNot only Nagorno Karabakh, in this situation Georgia also has frozen conflict in its territory. In previous report related to the South Caucasus I was supported by many colleagues and voted for amendment from the European Parliament. I asked to Armenia to leave the occupied territory because, if we look to history, this territory was Azerbaijani territory and for international law it is not acceptable to have the territory which belongs to other country and I hoped that Armenia starts the negotiations for accomplish this idea. According to international law Armenia must leave this territory and must support normalization of the situation. In my vision the step with recognition of the Azerbaijani integrity of the territory is slowly but we must push this process because all international community is interested to have a stable community there. It is normal for achieving peace in the area and I want to point out that this area is not far from the European Union and we are interested to accelerate this process. Certainly each country has a lobby and Armenia tries to demonstrate the true is on its part, but fortunately historical true is on the part of Azerbaijanâ€.

The European parliamentarian considers that Azerbaijan must increase its activity in Brussels. â€œThis summer I will be the host of the conference related to refugee situation because we are interested and fortunately there are many colleagues from different political groups who support this action. I believe the true is on your side, you succeed, you have good results and I hope Azerbaijan have good results in this area because as I pointed before the history is on your sideâ€.
