Mustafa Akinci: “The settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict is not a priority for the European Union”

Victoria Dementieva – APA. “No one can assist the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict, if the sides wouldn’t like it”, former mayor of Lefkosa, former member of the parliament and deputy prime minister Mustafa Akinci told a group of Azerbaijani journalist, APA correspondent reports from North Cyprus.

“Nagorno Karabakh problem is not a priority for the European Union”, said Akinci and reminded that when EU admitted Cyprus to its membership, it didn’t aim to assist the solution of the problem, but to extend sphere of its influence toward Russia. “The occupation of Azerbaijani lands can not be eternal and the conflict must be solved peacefully. It absolutely should be a balanced decision”.

Responding the question about the development of relations with Azerbaijan, Akinci said he would welcome Azerbaijani investment in North Cyprus economy. “We welcome any investment. The people will welcome investment from Azerbaijan”.

He reminded that there are a lot of Azerbaijani students in North Cyprus.
