Los Angeles hosts workshop on Azerbaijan’s strategic role

Los Angeles – APA. A workshop on Azerbaijan’s strategic role was held at Bet Amda synagogue in Los Angeles. Professor Reuven Firestone, University of Southern California, welcomed the participants and informed them about the history of Azerbaijan, Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles told APA. Firestone said there is a tolerance in the country. Beth Am rabbi Adam Kligfeld also welcomed the participants. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov spoke about the Jewish community’s contribution to the development of Azerbaijan, friendship between the Azerbaijani and Jewish peoples, as well as positive development of the Azerbaijan-Israel relationship. Reminding about the tragic events of January 20, 1990 in Azerbaijan, the diplomat said cruel action committed by the USSR leadership strengthened the will of Azerbaijani people to establish sovereign and independent state. “Azerbaijani statehood is based on the solidarity of all citizens not depending on their ethnicity and faith. There were Russians, Jews and other ethnics along with Azerbaijanis among the victims of the January 20 events. The citizens of multinational Azerbaijan, including Jewish people defended the country from the Armenian aggressionâ€.
