Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issues press release on outcomes of 2010 and outlines priorities for 2011

The document covers Azerbaijan’s relations with foreign countries and international organizations, meetings and achievements.

It is noted that the document in the field of security signed by the Caspian states at the 3rd Caspian Summit in Baku, joint statement, treaty and protocol decision indicated significance and efficiency of the event.

Another important document is Baku Declaration signed by heads of state and government of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary at the Baku Energy Summit. The declaration aims at diversifying the transportation of Azerbaijan’s natural gas.

The priorities of the state’s foreign policy course were also the activities aiming to protect the rights of the Azerbaijani citizens living abroad, increase the efficiency of the consular service, give impetus to the diplomatic and consular relations with foreign states.

The state, official and working visits of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Switzerland, Germany, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Portugal, USA, Georgia and Uzbekistan in 2010, as well as visits of the heads of states and governments of Bulgaria, Belarus, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, Russia, Romania, Hungary, Jordan and Mauritania to Azerbaijan, as well as meetings of the intergovernmental commissions and working groups, political consultations between the foreign ministries have deepened the bilateral cooperation.

Azerbaijani diplomatic representations have extended their coverage. Last year Azerbaijan opened embassies in Croatia, Estonia, Serbia, Libya and Argentine, general consulates in Yekaterinburg, Russia and Batumi, Georgia, honorary consulate representations in Stuttgart, Germany and Santa Fe, USA. Austrian, Dutch, Palestinian and Indonesian embassies were opened in Azerbaijan. Turkey opened its general consulate in Ganja, Azerbaijan.

In 2010, Azerbaijan decided to open embassies in South Africa, Iraq, Vietnam and Brazil.

Azerbaijan signed communiqués to establish diplomatic relations with Swaziland, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, St Lucia, the Republic of the Fiji Islands and Grenada.

A high mobilization toward the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, friendly neighborhood and confidence-building in the Caspian region, deepening of intensive cooperation and partnership, strengthening of Azerbaijan’s position as the most stable and reliable country in the export and transportation of rich hydrocarbon resources, effective use of unique multicultural and geopolitical features of Azerbaijan for contribution to the dialogue between the civilizations are among the first guides of the foreign policy in 2011.
