Public Union â€œAzerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan Republicâ€ issues statement on illegal visit of European Parliamentâ€™s member to the occupied territories

The statement says that all the documents adopted by the international organizations, particularly the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, Organization of Islamic Conference, including the European Parliament confirm Azerbaijanâ€™s territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty. The resolutions passed by the abovementioned international organizations envisage the solution of the conflict basing on the principles of the international law.

Though the international organizations, including the European Parliament, support Azerbaijanâ€™s territorial integrity, passed resolution on Nagorno Karabakh problem, member of the European Parliament Tomasz Poreba violated Azerbaijanâ€™s territorial integrity, visited Nagorno Karabakh via Armenia and held meetings with the representatives of the separatist regime there.

The document underlines that the illegal visit of the main rapporteur of the European Parliament on Armenia, MP from Poland Tomasz Poreba to the occupied territories of our republic caused strict protest of the Azerbaijani people, including Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh. It was discussed and condemned at the meeting of the management board of the Public Union â€œAzerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan Republicâ€.

â€œThe resolution on Nagorno Karabakh adopted by the European Parliament in May, 2010 synonymously shows that Azerbaijani lands are under the occupation. At the same time, the document also said that European Union recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and supports the soonest solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem within the principles of international law. The Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh says unfortunately EU representative Tomasz Poreba violated the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan visiting Nagorno Karabakh via Armenia and was inattentive to the EU principles and documents meeting with the representatives of this unrecognized separatist regime instead of learning the Nagorno Karabakh problem objectively and impartially and informing the members of his organizationâ€, said the statement.

As a result of Armeniaâ€™s aggressive policy Nagorno Karabakh and seven nearby regions of Azerbaijan were occupied, said the document. â€œFor years, Azerbaijani residents of those regions, including us â€“ Azerbaijanis of Nagorno Karabakh region couldnâ€™t return to our homeland. Armenians destroyed, plundered and burnt our houses and lands for these years. We want to return to the lands of our fathers. Azerbaijanis living in Nagorno Karabakh throughout the history have a right to live there alongside with the Armenian community. It is illegal that some people, sometimes representatives of the international organizations, including member of the European Parliament Tomasz Poreba visited the occupied Nagorno Karabakh without permission of the Azerbaijani government, said the document and added: â€œThe Public Union of Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan protests this event and assessed it not only as the violation of territorial integrity of our country, but also as the disrespect to the principles of international lawâ€.
