Discussions on Azerbaijan to be conducted at Washington energy summit

The conference also will focus on how to achieve a practical mix of traditional and alternative fuels to meet the worldâ€™s energy needs into the foreseeable future.

Thomas Cromwell, president of the conference organizing company East West Communications pointed out that, while the Obama administration has focused a lot of its attention on alternative sources of energy, such as solar, wind and biofuels, the world still runs on fossil fuels and countries everywhere are concerned with the need to find practical and cost-effective means of meeting their energy requirements.

The Washington Energy Summit will cover a wide range of energy sources, from traditional oil, gas and coal, to nuclear power plants and many of the alternatives being developed around the world.

Delegations from energy supplying countries, including the United Arab Emirates (led by Mohamed Bin Dhaâ€™en Al Hamli, Minister of Energy), Angola (led by Minister of Petroleum Jose Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos) and Egypt (led by Minister of Petroleum Amin Sameh Samir Fahmy) have already confirmed their participation. Other notable participants include Catherine Cesarsky, French High Commissioner for Atomic Energy, Konstyantyn Gryshchenko, Ukraineâ€™s Foreign Minister and Kiraitu Murungi, Kenyan Minister for Energy.

A number of Obama administration officials have also been invited. Yashar Aliyev and the Foreign Minister of Ukraine are the only honored speakers from the post-soviet world.

The delegates will discuss if it is possible to reach energy independence and the role of energy providing countries like Azerbaijan in other countriesâ€™ energy systems. The summit will also discuss the lessons learnt from the Mexico Gulf â€“ is it wise to drill offshore or not. Offshore drilling is key issue for the oil reach Caspian Sea as well, specially, for its Kashagan oilfield. The conference will also discuss the ecological perspective of the energy issue.
