APA reports quoting Armenia’s Mediamaks agency that spokesman for Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan said the foreign ministers of the two countries would have a phone talk concerning it. Commenting on Grigol Vashadze’s statement Tigran Balayan said they did not agree to his views.
“The country’s leadership has several times demonstrated our position on the Russian military base in Armenia. I think the information released by Azerbaijani mass media was distorted as usual. But anyway no country’s official has the right to interfere with our home affairs or comment on our security issues,” he said.

Grigol Vashadze had told APA exclusively that the increase of the number of Russian military bases in the South Caucasus posed a great threat to Georgia, Azerbaijan and more to Armenia’s independence. Touching on the extension of the term of deployment of the Russian military base in Gyumri, Armenia, Grigol Vashadze said reinforcement of the military base posed greater threat to Armenia’s independence.
“This military base does not promise security, stability or cooperation to anyone. Moreover, this military base does not pave the way for the civil and diplomatic solution to the conflicts in the South Caucasus. The only aim of the Russian military base is to increase tension in the region. The extension of the term of deployment of this military base in Armenia for 24 years and change of its function poses serious threat to the region,” he said.
