UN General Assembly adopts resolution on Georgia on GUAM’s initiative

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. UN General Assembly held debates on item of the agenda entitled “Protracted conflicts in GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development”. The General Assembly adopted a resolution, which was entitled “Status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia”, APA reports quoting UN’s official website. It expresses concern over the forced demographic changes as a result of conflicts in Georgia. The resolution recognizes the right of return of all internally displaced persons and refugees and their descendants to their homes throughout Georgia, including Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and underlines the protection of right of property of internally displaced persons and refugees suffered from the conflicts in Georgia. The draft resolution on the status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia was adopted by a recorded vote of 50 in favor to 17 against, with 86 abstentions.
