Washington. Isabel Levine – APA. A popular US analyst on the region has published a new book about the Caucasus, APA’s Washington DC correspondent reports.
Thomas de Waal, a British investigative journalist, former director of the Institute of War and Peace Reporting, an expert on the region at the Carnegie Endowment Foundation in Washington DC, has published a book called “Caucasus”.
Mr. Waal, who already authored two books on the region - the “Black Garden” about Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and “Chechnya” however points out that this particular book is focused only on the three countries of the South Caucasus.
In his modestly titled new book, Thomas de Waal seeks to fix this problem with a balanced, assiduously researched and lucid primer.

As the USSR collapsed, three states were created in the region – Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, and at the same time three conflicts that are frozen now, flashed out. The book discussed all these processes and national aspirations, energy politics, integration to Europe, etc.
