The Minister said they had touched on the points envisaged in the updated Madrid principles, Armenia found it difficult to accept some proposals.
“We determined the opportunities to move forward. When the co-chairs presented this document in Athens, they expected that both sides would have positive approach to it, as this document appeared as a result of the two-year work, meetings and discussions between Azerbaijan and Armenia both on the level of foreign ministers and presidents. Unfortunately, at the last minute the Armenian side said there were some difficulties in accepting some of the principles,” he said.

According to Elmar Mammadyarov, Azerbaijan has already declared that in order to achieve peace, it is ready to continue work basing on the updated Madrid principles.
“Now principally it is clear to us with what points the problem is connected. If the Armenian side indeed agrees to the withdrawal of its troops from the occupied territories and resolution of the conflict stage-by-stage, if a conceptual decision is passed about it, then of course, this problem will be solved. But if the Armenian side tries to suspend the process by distorting the concept proposed by the co-chairs, then I think there will be difficulties in solving the conflict peacefully,” he said.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister met with the co-chairs on June 4.
