Mironov said there were high-level relations between the two countries and emphasized the importance of relations between the parliamentarians. He said permanent dialogue and regular visits of the country leaders and parliament representatives were contributing to the development of friendly neighborhood relations. Chairman of the Council of Federation reminded about the participation of the Azerbaijani war veterans and President Ilham Aliyev at the events dedicated to 65th anniversary of victory and said relations between the two nations had deep historic roots. Mironov wished successes to Azerbaijan in organizing of the parliamentary elections on November 7, 2010.

Ogtay Asadov said Azerbaijan and Russia established friendly relationship based on mutual understanding in the past 20 years. Azerbaijani Parliament and Russian Council of Federation signed an agreement in 2001. An inter-parliamentary commission was established in 2003 and it held its ninth meeting few days ago. Asadov said much work has been done for protection and development of languages, faiths and ethnicity of the peoples and nations living in Azerbaijan. â€œThere are Russian sectors in all universities of the country. A number of secondary schools have Russian-speaking education programs. It is sign of importance given to Russian language and culture in Azerbaijanâ€.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament mentioned the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and said it was the main factor tackling the development of the regional countries. Asadov emphasized the active efforts by Russia as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and expressed hopefulness for Russiaâ€™s further activity towards the fair solution to the conflict. He expressed reaction of Baku to observing of â€œparliamentary electionsâ€ in Nagorno Karabakh by some Russian parliamentarians.
