Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and University of Glasgow sign cooperation agreement

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. The Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) and University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing academic cooperation, the ADA told APA. According to the memorandum, ADA and the University of Glasgow will collaborate on student, faculty and administrative staff exchange and conduct joint research projects.

ADA Rector, Ambassador Hafiz Pashayev called the signing of the cooperation agreement a significant achievement: â€œIt is a very positive development that we have started this cooperation with Glasgow University, which is in the top 100 universities of the world. Every year, thousands of students are accepted to the university and some of them studying international relations, diplomacy and socials sciences will be linked to ADA from 2011. It will not only give a chance for foreign students to study Caspian Basin, Caucasus and Central Asian issues but acquaint themselves with realities of the region on the ground. On the other hand, faculty and students of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy will be able to visit the University of Glasgow and learn from their rich experienceâ€.

The Head of Department of Central and East European Studies, David Smith noted that ADA is the first school in the Caucasus with which they have decided to formalize relations, stating that â€œADA has an outstanding range of courses in an area that will be of great interest to our students. I am sure there will be students across Europe and North America who will see it as a great opportunity to spend a least one semester and possible longer studying the Caspian Basin, Central Asia and Caucasus at ADAâ€.

For the last two months, ADA also has signed cooperation agreements with the Bilkent and Middle East Technical Universities in Turkey and the Omani Diplomatic Institute.
