He noted that other countries including Russia and Azerbaijan did not see Nagorno Karabakh as a partner for negotiations.

“Parliamentary Elections in Nagorno-Karabakh have proved that the people of NKR have succeeded in establishment of a modern democratic state. Otherwise, the Nagorno-Karabakh would be ruled by warlords or other forces. We are against this. It should be taken into account the opinion of the Armenian side. We see no alternative..”, said Armenian president.

Barroso reminded EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton’s statement, in which she stated that “the EU does not recognize the legal and constitutional framework of parliamentary elections held in Nagorno-Karabakh”. Barosso noted that EU continued to promote the peaceful settlement of the conflict on the basis of the right to return of displaced persons, property rights, the right to self-determination, security and withdrawal of forces.

Serzh Sargsyan said it was strange that EU and other international organizations had not recognized parliamentary elections held in Nagorno Karabakh: “We find it quite strange and trying to understand the reasons of it”.
