According to UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Antonius Broek, Azerbaijan achieved progress in the direction of the Millennium Development Goals adopted by the UN member-states and several organizations.
Broek says the development has 8 goals in Millennium Resolutions – poverty reduction, HIV-AIDS prevention, organization of primary education and etc.: ”Azerbaijan has achieved many of these goals. For example, poverty reduction and social services improvement”.
Broek added that recently Azerbaijan develops rapidly and main role here is effective usage of incomes from oil and gas industry: “But, Azerbaijan must continue the works on poverty reduction, economic diversification and etc. For this purpose, Azerbaijan has developed a improvement concept and if these goals are achieved, Azerbaijan will enter the list of upper-middle incomes countries, and high income countries in the perspective”.
UN official also noted that Azerbaijan also moves forward on human capital index. Along wit this, Azerbaijan must increase the quality in education, health and social services.
WB manager on Azerbaijan Larisa Leshchenko stated that Azerbaijan achieved successes in many spheres. But the government must pay attention to launch of new jobs, regional development and inclusive development of economy: “For economic diversification, it needs to focus on development of human capital”.
