Baku-APA. Five Turkish opposition parties announced in Ankara on Wednesday their support for Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, former Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to run for the upcoming presidential elections, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The five opposition parties include the Republican People's Party (CHP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the Democratic Left Party (DSP), the Independent Turkey Party (BTP) and the Democrat Party (DP).
The leaders of the CHP and the MHP signed a joint declaration in a press conference on Wednesday.
The declaration stated that their political parties support Ihsanoglu, who would be objective towards all religious and ethnic identities, as the presidential candidate in order to reinforce the separation of powers in Turkey.
The CHP and MHP announced Ihsanoglu as their joint presidential candidate on June 16.
Ihsanoglu will compete with two other candidates, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party's Selahattin Demirtas in the presidential elections slated for August 10.
